Day 2 Building

Clear day for the start of work, not a cloud in the sky! The views of Agua Volcano have been great.

Our group headed out after breakfast, our driver Eric drives so cautiously, I think he is trying to spare us the extremely bumpy roads! The cobble stone here in Antigua is basically volcanic rock placed in some cement. The roads are curved to a fairly sharp V in the centre, to aid with drainage. We arrived on site within about 10 or 15 minutes.

At the beginning of the day the Mason/Maestro arranged for some of the dirt and stones that we (the Royal we, Adrian and Edi did it) dug up.

Mid morning the Regional supervisor of HFH Guatemala showed up. Dona Emy has worked for Habitat in different capacities for 24 years, as a woman this is really an amazing accomplishment, especially in the construction industry in Guatemala.

We sat outside in of the house in the shade for lunch and watched the kids go back and forth from school.

As usual the kids and the kittens were present to supervise the work, the kittens fell asleep on the job. Paola, is very quiet and won't look at us or even speak to us. We'll keep trying...

The Grandma of the house (Abuela) makes tortilla's for a living, she has been doing this for 24 years. She washes the corn, then grinds it, makes dough and then fries them on the Comal. People are coming back and forth buying tortillas either for themselves or for their tiendas (stores). The Grandma was nice enough to give us a demonstration for the last few pieces of dough she had. Here are 3 of us who were successful in making something that resembled tortillas!
